Exodus 40:7
(7) The laver. Comp. Exodus 30:18. Its proper place was close to the door of the Tabernacle, since the priests had to wash their hands and feet at it every time that they set foot within the Tabernacle (Exodus 30:19-20).

Verse 7. - The laver. See Exodus 30:18; Exodus 38:8. Put water therein. The water was required: -

1. For the ablution of the priests (Exodus 30:19-21; Exodus 40:12, 31; Leviticus 8:6), and

2. For washing the victims (Leviticus 8:21).

40:1-15 When a new year begins, we should seek to serve God better than the year before. In half a year the tabernacle was completed. When the hearts of numbers are earnest in a good cause, much may be done in a short time; and when the commandments of God are continually attended to, as the rule of working, all will be done well. The high-priesthood was in the family of Aaron till Christ came, and in Him, the substance of all these shadows, it continues for ever. And thou shall set the laver,.... As is directed in Exodus 30:18.
